In the past wrongly attributed to Pieter de Hoogh. Later a signature was
discovered which proved it to be an Elinga.
The woman's head used to be painted over but was (not quite successfully)
restored in the beginning of the 20th c.

A 'toebackje', a form of vanitas painting of smoker's attributes found more
often in Dutch painting after ±1650.
The jug shows the city arms of Amsterdam.

Typical for Elinga's interiors (see above) are the small figures and furniture
which make the room itself appear very large.

Perspective box

One of six 17th c. perspective boxes left in the world.
The ground frame is triangular, all four panels are painted on the inside. The
front panel, now open, used to be closed, with a peep-hole in it (plus an
opening for light to pass through).
This must be one of the earliest depictions of tea drinking requisites in Dutch
painting, probably about 1660-80.
