 Bruges 1623 - before 1682

Lady with a string of pearls

Canvas
66 x 63 cm
Inv.nr. 42-1946, Cat.nr.54

In the past wrongly attributed to Pieter de Hoogh. Later a signature was discovered which proved it to be an Elinga.
The woman's head used to be painted over but was (not quite successfully) restored in the beginning of the 20th c.

Still life

Panel
43 x 33 cm
Inv.nr. 44-1946, Cat.nr.55

A 'toebackje', a form of vanitas painting of smoker's attributes found more often in Dutch painting after ±1650.
The jug shows the city arms of Amsterdam.

Interior with winding stairs

Panel
52,5 x 48 cm
Inv.nr. 43-1946, Cat.nr.56

Typical for Elinga's interiors (see above) are the small figures and furniture which make the room itself appear very large.

Perspective box

Panel
84 x 82 x 42 cm
Inv.nr. 217-1946, Cat.nr.57

One of six 17th c. perspective boxes left in the world. The ground frame is triangular, all four panels are painted on the inside. The front panel, now open, used to be closed, with a peep-hole in it (plus an opening for light to pass through).
This must be one of the earliest depictions of tea drinking requisites in Dutch painting, probably about 1660-80.
